An irregular pentagon 2007-04-11
reg pose la question :
Hi, i have been given an irregular pentagon in which i have to work out the area. I have been told to make three triangles and then work out the area of these triangles and then add them up.

I require your help because i have the length of two sides of one of the triangle - how do i work out the other side?

I have not been provided with any angles - can i make the angles up?

A pentagonal pyramid 2007-04-10
Alan pose la question :
Help me please, I'm pretty stumped here. I guess I'll start with the measurements I do have. The pentagon base of the pyramid is inscribed in an eight inch circle, giving each side the measurement of 4 & 5/8 inches.

I have two glass billets measuring 5"x10"x3/4" If I did the math right I need the form to hold about 75 cubic inches.

What does the height of the pyramid need to be to hold the volume of the two billets? (note: the billets will be broken into smaller pieces to actually fit into the form.)

Determine the probability that the triangle is acute. 2007-04-10
Greg pose la question :
Points A1, A2, . . ., AN are equally spaced around the circumference of a circle and N >=3. Three of these points are selected at random and a triangle is formed using these points as its vertices. If N = 2k for some positive integer k >= 2, determine the probability that the triangle is acute.
