A garden in the back yard |
2012-08-04 |
|
Lucy pose la question : Your boss says that his wife has put an 18 × 51 foot garden in along the whole back end of their back yard. He says that this has reduced the back-yard lawn area by 24%. What are the total dimensions of his back yard? What are the dimensions of the remaining lawn area? I found this question on purplemath(http://www.purplemath.com/modules/percntof3.htm). I still don't understand how to solve it. Can you walk me through the process please?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my question. Penny Nom lui répond. |

Percentage increase |
2012-08-01 |
|
Jay pose la question : When calculating percentage growth, why is (y-x)/x the same as
(y/x)-1 ??? (I seem to be stuck on the simple algebra here)...
e.g. 2011, toy was £5, 2012, toy is £10. What is the percentage
increase? So, (10-5)/5 = 1 (i.e. 100% increase), AND, (10/5)-1 = 1
(i.e. also 100% increase).
Thanks in advance. Penny Nom lui répond. |

Jeff pose la question : I have two circles of different size that overlap one another:
Circle #1 has an area(A) of 731,475, so I can calculate its radius as 482.6.
Circle #2 has an area(A) of 502,517, so I can calculate its radius as 400.
If I know that the area where they overlap is 179,271, how can I calculate the distance between the midpoints of these two circles? Chris Fisher lui répond. |
